My dresser Obsession!!

Okay this is my problem, I can't stand to see antique dresser's or anything else antique thrown away! It really bugs me. If I don't stop and pick it up then I can't stop thinking about it being left out for the garbage! This dresser was across the street from me and I stopped to look at it and I drove off without it but every so often I would peek out the window to see if it was still there. I told my husband that it was calling my name and he just laughed at me, a few hours later my son came in and said Dad needs you outside for a minute, I walk outside and this is what I saw, Jeff and my son had taken the truck across the street and loaded up the dresser for me and brought it home!!! They both got kisses. I just thought it was so sweet of them because any other man would have considered it firewood! I don't know if it is salvagable but Í'm gonna try. Just look at the carvings on it, it's roses! I thought maybe I could paint it and use it for a dresser in my garden?? We'll see. Have a great week everybody~Kelly

I think it just needs the veneer fixed on the front drawers. If you are going to paint it you could probably just remove the veneer that still there and sand it really well! I would have picked that up too! It's beautiful!!!

I need to find a husband like yours!!!

Oh wow!!! What a delightful piece, certainly worth saving!

I totally understand (so does Tom) the "calling my name" thing. I use that alot, when I'm going through a sale, antique shop or whatever...such and such just called my name...OR...there are alot of pretty things here, but nothing called my name. LOL!!

Hi Kelly,

I followed your comment on Cindy's blog to see your dresser. I would try using Bondo on it to smooth out the area that is missing the veneer. My husband had an auto body painting & repair business for years & Bondo is a miracle fixer. If you can't find it at Home Depot, etc, try a paint store.

Good luck & I'd love to see it when you've finished!

Hey it's me again...In answer to my get together for the Florida Blogging Gals, I am going to try to arrange that. My only problem is I'm new to this and don't have many Fl. gals comment on my blog.

My plan is to get the word out. I will do all the arrangments: I.E. Central Location for meet up for breakfast or lunch and find some antique or flea markets or thrift stores in the area where we can all meet....

Do you know of any more Fl. Bloggers? Any Help is appreciated!!! If so, I will leave comments on their sites to see if they are interested..Just thought it would be nice to hook up in person.
Thanks!
Jackie
PS you can send me an email through my site if you wish.

I love the scrole work on the sides. I would have wanted it also and especially if it was starring me in the face all the time. I'm sure you will be able to fix it up great. Can't wait to see pictures.
What a sweet hubby!

AWWW!!! How sweet is that!?! I think I would have had to do a whole lot of convincing to get my hubby to bring it home! He gets it sometimes but not always! The dresser is beautiful!!! I think it looks like it can be saved!
Have a wonderful night!

it doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful! If you decide to put in in the garden it will be fantastic! Potted flowers spilling out of the drawers....

What a lucky lady you are to have a sweetie like that! Before I even finished reading your paragraph I thought "in the garden!" You could paint it and plant in one of the open drawers. The rest can hold garden gloves or pots kinda like a potting bench. Oooooh! What about dropping an antique sink into it outside????

Great find..I can't wait to see how you spruce it up and where you will place it.
I would have snagged it too...my hubby would have helped but not without a few grumbles LOL

I can't wait to see your make-over!

My hubby would have picked it up and waited to see if I wanted to keep it. Our men must just be used to us and our treasure hunting, painting, "give new life" ways.
I think it's wonderful and hope you are able to save it somehow, someway. Either as a dresser or reworked as something else. Can't wait to see what you come up with

Oh, what a great find! Don't put it in the garden sweetie, it'll never make it.
Rip that vaneer off and paint that old gal. Would make a beautiful buffet, or sink vanity...
If you don't have a place for it, sell it.
I've had to have Kevin put new drawer bottoms in and such. I just can't see these old beauties go to the trash either. Keep us posted!!

Hi Kelly,
I love your "garbage dresser", I have been known to do this too, I have a table in my dining room that I got off the side of the road! Throw enough paint on this beauty and it will cover any imperfections up! I promise,:)!!

I am with Rene, I would of tied it to my head if I had to...

What a lovely piece and it is so awesome that your son and husband went over and brought it home. I'dve given them kisses, too.

Like Cindy mentioned, just strip the veneers off of the drawers and sand. I have also seen old dressers without the drawers and where the drawers would have been, they just put in shelves. The framing is already there where the drawers slide in. It would be fabulous with old clay pots stacked inside. ~ I would also use an antifungal paint if you are using it outdoors. Maybe something with a pretty sheen - like white!

Do share when you are all done!!!
